AEO

Authorized Economic Operator

After a successful audit in the spring of 2017, we were granted the AEO-C certificate (for customs simplification) from the central customs office in Augsburg on May 16, 2017. This means we are certified as an Authorized Eeconomic Operator.

The certificate distinguishes STAUB & CO.–SILBERMANN as an especially reliable and trustworthy company.

Among other things, the certification process involved the review and validation of the company’s accounting systems, solvency and safety standards, and of its employees’ professional qualifications.

Being certified as an authorized economic operator is not mandatory. We are convinced, however, that our voluntarily undergoing the certification process will benefit both us and our business partners.

Benefits to you

  • Our internal processes and operations meet the international requirements of the World Customs Organization (WCO).
  • We guarantee the consistency of the international supply chain.
  • Export processes can be handled faster.

What is behind the AEO concept?

Increased globalization and changes in international security have led the World Customs Organization (WCO) to adopt the Framework of Standards to Secure and Facilitate Global Trade (SAFE Framework), a global framework for modern, effective risk management in customs administration.

The AEO concept represents a main element in the European Union’s Customs Security Program. With the adoption of the AEO concept by way of amendments to the Community Customs Code in Regulation (EC) No. 648/2005 of the European Parliament and of the Council of April 13, 2005, the European Union implemented the guidelines of the WCO, as outlined in the SAFE Framework, for its member states’ customs authorities. The AEO status has been available to request since January 1, 2008.

What objective can be achieved by having AEO status?

The objective of the AEO concept is to guarantee the consistency of the international supply chain – from goods manufacturer to consumer – while also simplifying and observing lawful trade. This makes it necessary for the AEO status to be recognized on a global level.

Agreements have already been signed with Switzerland, Norway, Japan, the United States and China. Negotiations with other countries (e.g. Canada) are currently underway.

Authorized economic operator (AEO) status is applicable in all member states and is not subject to time restrictions.

The status can be granted in three forms:
